Smash Index
A normalized percentage comparing your smash factor to the maximum expected for your club speed.
Full Definition
Smash Index is a TrackMan metric introduced in 2025 that expresses your smash factor as a percentage of the theoretical maximum for your specific club and club speed. A Smash Index of 100% means perfect energy transfer. Unlike raw smash factor, which has different optimal values for different clubs, Smash Index provides a consistent 0-100% scale across all clubs, making it easy to assess strike quality at a glance.
Formula
Optimal RangeGeneral guidance based on tour averages. Your optimal range depends on swing speed, physical attributes, and individual technique. Many golfers succeed with metrics outside these ranges.
90-100% across all clubs
Why It Matters
Smash factor benchmarks differ by club (1.50 for driver, 1.35 for 7-iron, etc.), so a raw number alone doesn't tell you how well you struck it. Smash Index normalizes this—90%+ means you're striking it well regardless of club. It's a quick diagnostic for strike quality consistency across your bag.
