Impact Offset

The horizontal distance from the center of the clubface to where the ball was struck (toe-heel).

Also known as:Impact Location (Horizontal), Toe-Heel Strike, Face Contact Offset, Face Impact Lateral

Full Definition

Impact offset measures how far toward the toe or heel the ball contacted the clubface, relative to the center. A positive value typically indicates a toe hit; negative indicates a heel hit. Off-center horizontal contact causes the clubface to twist at impact, reducing energy transfer and inducing gear effect that adds curvature to the shot.

Optimal Range

Within 0.25" of center for optimal energy transfer

Why It Matters

Horizontal strike location directly affects both distance and direction. Toe strikes lose ball speed and, with woods, add draw spin through gear effect. Heel strikes do the opposite. Consistently finding the center horizontally is key to predictable ball flight.
