Impact Height

The vertical distance from the center of the clubface to where the ball was struck (high-low).

Also known as:Impact Location (Vertical), Strike Height, Face Contact Height, Face Impact Vertical

Full Definition

Impact height measures how far above or below the clubface center the ball made contact. Striking high on the face with a driver launches the ball higher with less spin (the "high launch, low spin" ideal). Striking low increases spin and reduces launch angle. With irons, low strikes often result in thin shots while high strikes can feel "fat" even when hitting ball first.

Optimal Range

Driver: slightly above center | Irons: center to slightly below

Why It Matters

Vertical strike location affects launch conditions differently than horizontal. With driver, hitting high on the face can add 10-15 yards by optimizing launch and spin. With irons, consistent height produces consistent trajectory and distance control.
