Distance Control
A SimSights metric that measures the percentage of shots landing within an acceptable carry window of your median distance for each club.
Full Definition
Distance Control is a SimSights-specific consistency metric that measures how tightly clustered your carry distances are around your median for each club. It's calculated per-club — for each club, shots must land within a set yardage of that club's median carry distance (±5 yards for wedges, ±6 yards for short irons). This metric is only calculated for wedges and short irons, where distance precision matters most for approach shots and scoring.
Optimal RangeGeneral guidance based on tour averages. Your optimal range depends on swing speed, physical attributes, and individual technique. Many golfers succeed with metrics outside these ranges.
70%+ is precise, 50–69% is acceptable, below 50% means inconsistent yardages
Why It Matters
Scoring clubs are all about distance control. Hitting a pitching wedge 130 yards one time and 118 the next makes it impossible to attack pins. This metric tells you whether your carry distances are tight enough to trust when picking targets. It's not shown for longer clubs because distance variation naturally increases with club length.
