Spin Rate Type

Indicates whether the spin rate was directly measured or calculated from other data.

Also known as:Spin Type, Spin Quality, Spin Measurement Type

Full Definition

Spin rate type is a data quality indicator that tells you how the spin rate value was determined. "Measured" means the launch monitor directly tracked the ball's rotation using cameras or radar. "Calculated" or "Estimated" means the spin was derived from other launch conditions (ball speed, launch angle, etc.) using physics models. Measured spin is more accurate, while calculated spin is an educated estimate.

Why It Matters

Understanding spin rate type helps you interpret your data correctly. Measured spin is highly reliable for analyzing your swing and equipment. Calculated spin is useful for general trajectory simulation but may not reflect exactly what the ball is doing, especially with unusual launch conditions or ball types.
