Dispersion Zone

A SimSights metric that represents the radius of a circle (in yards) containing roughly 95% of your shots, combining both lateral and distance spread.

Full Definition

Dispersion Zone is a SimSights-specific consistency metric calculated from the standard deviations of your carry distance and side deviation. It combines both how far offline and how inconsistent your distances are into a single number representing your shot scatter. A smaller dispersion zone means tighter groupings. When multiple clubs are in the group, it's calculated per-club and then averaged (weighted by shot count) so that natural distance differences between clubs don't inflate the number.

Formula

√(σ_carry² + σ_side²) × 1.96, converted to yards (95% confidence circle)

Optimal Range

Under 10 yds is tight, 10–15 yds is average, over 15 yds is scattered

Why It Matters

Dispersion zone is the most practical measure of overall accuracy. It answers the question: "How big is the area I need to aim at to be confident my ball will land there?" Shrinking your dispersion zone directly translates to fewer missed greens and fairways.
