Descent Angle

The angle of the ball's downward path as it approaches landing.

Full Definition

Descent angle measures the steepness of the ball's trajectory as it falls. It's essentially the same as landing angle but may be measured slightly before landing. A steeper descent angle indicates a higher, more spinny shot that will stop faster upon landing.

Why It Matters

Descent angle helps predict how the ball will behave on landing. Tour players often achieve 45°+ descent angles with mid-irons, which is why they can attack pins knowing the ball will stop. Amateurs with lower descent angles need to account for more roll.
