Curvature
The amount the ball curves in flight from start line to finish.
Full Definition
Curvature is how much the ball moves sideways during its flight, measured from where it started to where it ended up. It's caused by spin axis tilt, which is created by face-to-path difference. More spin with the same axis tilt = more curve. The ball curves away from the tilted spin axis.
Optimal RangeGeneral guidance based on tour averages. Your optimal range depends on swing speed, physical attributes, and individual technique. Many golfers succeed with metrics outside these ranges.
Less than 15 yards for controlled shots
Why It Matters
Curvature determines whether your shot shapes are playable. A 5-yard draw is a weapon; a 30-yard hook is a disaster. Understanding curvature helps you work the ball intentionally and diagnose unintentional curves.
